Santander is the magnificent capital of the region of Cantabria. Santander and a busy port but enjoys tranquil stretches of golden sands along the coastline. It enjoys a splendid location close to the opening of a deep bay allowing for great water sports opportunities.
Santander city centre is modern in appearance on account of the town being ravaged by a fire in 1941. It has since been completely rebuilt. The town reaches up along the coast along to the Peninsula de la Magdalena. Here you will find a park, a zoo and the stunning Palacio de la Magdalena - a summer residence constructed for Alfonso XIII in the early 20th Century.
The seashore village of, just north of the peninsula you will find 'El Sardinero' a stylish resort with a long winding beach. The village is surrounded by gardens, charming cafés, bistros and an exquisite white casino. El Sardinero also has a cultural aspect to add to its list of attractions playing host to a famous theatre and music festival every year.
